Cancelled21 - 22 MarThu 5pm to Fri 4.30pm1Boat Handling Day - March1 / 40 / 0 / 4Hamble95 or 170 (*)
Other dates available: see below! This is a one-day boat handling course, run by Fairview on one of their Oceanis 37s. It’s a great opportunity to brush up on your boat handling skills, taught by the professionals. Lunch is included, and there are several hotel and B&B options available nearby. The standard Fairview price for the course is £189, but booking through the club enables a 10% discount, so £170.10 to pay.
For those on the boat handling day on 22-Mar (the Friday of the Kick Start Weekend), there is the option to stay on the boat on the Thursday evening; please ask if you’d like this option.
(*) Active skipper discount: The club is keen to promote training and will subsidise this course for active skippers, effectively resulting in a 50% discount of the standard Fairview price, so just £95 to pay. To qualify for this discounted price the attendee must be a current paid up member and commit to skippering an event within 12 months of the course, subject to availability of events (i.e. no disruptions to the programme such as extended lockdowns). The active skipper discount is also available on similar courses closer to you if available: just ask!
Confirmed22 - 24 MarFri 5pm to Sun 4pm2Kick Start Weekend1 / 80 / 1 / 3Hamble185 - 240
Occurring on the weekend before Easter, this is a great opportunity to blow away those wintery cobwebs and get out on the water. The mornings and evenings can be a bit chilly but when wrapped up warm, the sun is shining and the air is fresh, what more do you need?
Provisional23 - 24 MayThu 5pm to Fri 4.30pm1Boat Handling Day - May1 / 40 / 0 / 2Hamble75 or 125 (*)
This is a one-day boat handling course, run by Fairview on one of their Oceanis 37s. It’s a great opportunity to brush up on your boat handling skills, taught by the professionals. Lunch is included, and those who don’t live locally are able to stay on the boat on the Thursday evening. The standard Fairview price for the course is £189, but this particular event being specially organised by the club is only £125, a huge 33% discount! This price is contingent on a) the Cross-Channel Cruise event being confirmed and b) four trainees.
(*) Pricing: The training can happen with fewer than four trainees but costs would be adjusted accordingly.
(*) Active skipper discount: The club is keen to promote training and will subsidise this course for active skippers, effectively resulting in a 60% discount of the standard Fairview price of £189, so just £75 to pay. To qualify for this discounted price the attendee must be a current paid up member and commit to skippering an event within 12 months of the course, subject to availability of events (i.e. no disruptions to the programme such as extended lockdowns). The active skipper discount is also available on similar courses closer to you if available: just ask!
Provisional24 - 27 MayFri 5pm to Mon 4pm3Cross-Channel Bank Holiday Dash1/80 / 1 / 3Hamble265 - 345
Making the most of the bank holiday weekend, this event is looking to depart asap on the Friday evening for an overnight 'dash' across the Channel to the Cherbourg peninsula. What could be better than starting Saturday with a proper French croissant and café? There will be plenty of time to buy some lovely French delicacies (& maybe un peu de vin!), and enjoy more French cuisine, before departing late Sunday or Early Monday back to the UK.
Provisional13 - 16 JunThu 5pm to Sun 4pm3Round The Island Race1 / 81 / 1 / 5Solent495 - 655
One of the world’s most famous annual yacht races, with nearly 1,500 yachts and 15,000 sailors competing in a one-day race around the Isle of Wight. It truly lives up to its reputation as a ‘Race for All’ welcoming sailors from all over the world, with professional sailors, families and first-time racers competing next to one another around the stunning coastline of the Isle of Wight. Important: The deadline for booking this event is the 29th February.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, pricing does not include the race entry fee or overnight berthing.
Confirmed6 - 13 JulSat to Sat7Mediterranean Cruise: Greece1 / 7Standby onlyGreece585 - 810
Following the fantastic success of last year’s trip to the Balearics, we’re offering another Mediterranean cruise in 2024. This will be a week-long event based out of Alimos Marina, nr. Athens, Greece. Those already interested in the trip have confirmed the dates as stated, found a suitable charter boat and even booked accommodation in Athens for a few days of sight-seeing before sailing. The charter cost is confirmed at £3,300 (FX depending), and so the sailing fee of £585 to £810 per person gives a healthy start to the trip’s kitty too.
While we have now filled all berths on the boat, please contact Simon if you are interested in being on a standby list. If we have enough interest, we may be able to get a second boat chartered.
Confirmed2 - 4 AugFri eve to Sun pm2Paul Mapp Celebration Weekend1 / 120 / 0 / 2Solent245 - 305
A club event to celebrate the life and friendship of Paul Mapp, who sadly and unexpectedly passed away last September. Anticipated to be a happy and joyful weekend sharing our memories of Paul on his birthday weekend.
Provisional30 Aug - 1 SepFri eve to Sun pm2City Sailing Series - Finn Trophy and Spread Eagle Regatta1 / 81 / 1 / 5Solent295 - 390
Arguably the main event of the City Sailing Series, this one being organised by the Lloyds Insurance, Baltic & Stock Exchanges, with Saturday dinner in the Royal Yacht Squadron (TBC) in Cowes. It should be a superb weekend! More information can be found at www.citysailingseries.com.
Provisional25 - 27 OctFri 5pm to Sun 4pm2End of Summer Weekend2 / 160 / 1 / 2Hamble290 - 370
Occurring on the last full weekend in October, this is the most popular of all the club’s events and a great opportunity to catch up with lots of club members. The semi-formal Saturday evening dinner (included in the sailing fee) is a great social event: venue suggestions are welcome.
The higher than usual cost is an estimate and covers the charter of a larger yacht, such as a Dufour 460 GL (as per last year). Final pricing will depend on bookings.
Provisional26 OctSat 7pm1EoS Dinner OnlyTBC40
Those who can’t come along to the End of Season Rally are welcome to join everyone for dinner on the Saturday evening, venue TBC (but somewhere on or near the Solent).

The vacant berths data feed was last updated on Monday, 18-Mar-24 18:27:29 UTC.

Event Notes

  • New members: Of any experience (or none), are always welcome.
  • Members: Please bring your family, friends, colleagues with you. Why not organise an ‘office activity weekend’?
  • Adjustments: If you want to adjust the programme — add an event, change a location, extend a weekend by a day or two — please ask. You never know, other people might be wishing for the same.
  • Training: Brush up your skills or more specific if you have something you want to focus on. We could extend or change this to mid-week (cheaper) if required.
  • Mid-week days: Avoid the weekend crowds and get cheaper sailing (five days almost costs the same as a weekend).
  • Dinner only: Events listed as ‘dinner only’ are for members who are unable to come along to the main sailing event but wish to attend the dinner.
