The club offers an extensive programme with a diverse range of events, from casual cruising to amateur racing. The events below are for the current year; don’t forget to check out the draft events programme for next year.
Vacant Berths
The following table shows the remaining events for the current season, and is updated on a regular basis throughout the season. Note: You can click or tap on a row to display (or hide) a brief description of the event.
Status | Dates | When | Days | Event | Boats/Berths | Vacancies (skipper/mate/crew) | Sailing from | Price range (£) |
---|
Cancelled | 30 Aug - 1 Sep | Fri eve to Sun pm | 2 | City Sailing Series - Finn Trophy and Spread Eagle Regatta | 1 / 8 | 1 / 1 / 6 | Solent | 295 - 390 |
IMPORTANT: The club won’t be participating in this regatta but see the John Lewis partnership Sailing Club Regatta in October. Arguably the main event of the City Sailing Series, this one being organised by the Lloyds Insurance, Baltic & Stock Exchanges, with Saturday dinner in the Royal Yacht Squadron (TBC) in Cowes. It should be a superb weekend! More information can be found at www.citysailingseries.com. |
Provisional | 11 - 13 Oct | Fri 5pm to Sun 4pm | 2 | City Sailing Series - John Lewis Partnership Sailing Club Regatta | 1 / 8 | 1 / 1 / 4 | Hamble | TBC |
The John Lewis Partnership Sailing Club Regatta is part of the City Sailing Series, with the Island Sailing Club in Cowes hosting the event and also the dinner on the Saturday evening. We are hoping the dates for this event will better suit a number of club members who were unable to attend the Spread Eagle Regatta earlier in the year. More information can be found at www.citysailingseries.com. |
Confirmed | 25 - 27 Oct | Fri 5pm to Sun 4pm | 2 | End of Summer Weekend | 2 / 16 | 1 / 1 / 7 | Hamble | 290 - 370 |
Occurring on the last full weekend in October, this is the most popular of all the club’s events and a great opportunity to catch up with lots of club members. The semi-formal Saturday evening dinner (included in the sailing fee) is a great social event: venue suggestions are welcome.
The higher than usual cost is an estimate and covers the charter of a larger yacht, such as a Dufour 460 GL (as per last year). Final pricing will depend on bookings. |
Confirmed | 26 Oct | Sat 7pm | 1 | EoS Dinner Only | | | TBC | 40 |
Those who can’t come along to the End of Season Rally are welcome to join everyone for dinner on the Saturday evening, venue TBC (but somewhere on or near the Solent). |
The vacant berths data feed was last updated on Sunday, 25-Aug-24 17:06:20 UTC.
Event Notes
- New members: Of any experience (or none), are always welcome.
- Members: Please bring your family, friends, colleagues with you. Why not organise an ‘office activity weekend’?
- Adjustments: If you want to adjust the programme — add an event, change a location, extend a weekend by a day or two — please ask. You never know, other people might be wishing for the same.
- Training: Brush up your skills or more specific if you have something you want to focus on. We could extend or change this to mid-week (cheaper) if required.
- Mid-week days: Avoid the weekend crowds and get cheaper sailing (five days almost costs the same as a weekend).
- Dinner only: Events listed as ‘dinner only’ are for members who are unable to come along to the main sailing event but wish to attend the dinner.
Booking Conditions
When you make a booking you agree to the club’s Booking Conditions, summarised here:
- Membership
- All attendees must be members, either Ordinary, Joint or Provisional.
- New members join as Provisional Members and pay 50% of the applicable full membership fee, plus the sailing fee, before their first event. If they wish to continue as a member, the remaining 50% of the full membership fee is payable.
- Discounts are available for partners and those in full-time education, as a Joint Member; please ask if this applies to you.
- If an existing member wishes to bring a guest, the guest must join as a Provisional Member.
- Current membership fees can be found on the New Members page.
- Sailing Fees
- Sailing fees quoted are estimates and provisional. The final fee will depend on the actual charter cost and number of places filled.
- The lower fee is based on a full boat (depending on charter cost); the higher fee is based on 75% capacity (e.g. six berths out of eight).
- Members will be debited the higher fee, and the boat chartered when 75% of berths are filled.
- The deposit also includes a £5 booking fee, which helps cover running costs of the club; it is non-refundable, unless the event has to be cancelled.
- Excess sailing fees — after charter costs, booking fees and any other costs included in the event have been paid — are returned to the crew at the event via the Skipper. Events are charged and run as cost-neutral to the club, with no profit or loss being made.
- All payments by Direct Debit (DD), on or shortly after the 1st of the month. Deposits are due on next DD date after booking. All other payments due according to the stated schedule, including a provisional booking if the event is still provisional.
- If a due date has already passed when a booking is made, the member may be asked to pay the sailing fee directly into the club’s bank account.
- For details of the deposit to be paid and the dates the remaining fees are due, please see the Bookings list in the Members area of the website.
- If an event has sufficient bookings but is without an appropriately qualified skipper, a ‘last-minute’ skipper — if one can be found — will be offered the incentive of paying only 50% of the sailing fee, the remaining 50% being shared between the crew. This will only be done with the prior agreement of those booked.
- If an event is cancelled (insufficient bookings or appropriate Skipper or Mate qualifications), all payments including deposits and booking fees will be returned or re-allocated to other booked events.
- If a member cancels, the deposit and booking fee will not be returned. If the event is provisional, other payments will be returned or re-allocated. If the event is confirmed, other payments remain due and will not be returned unless all berths are filled.
- Events
- Provisional events are waiting for sufficient members to book so we can charter the boat(s). If we don’t get enough bookings the event will be cancelled.
- Confirmed events have a yacht chartered and will proceed.
- Do not make expensive travel arrangements until the event is confirmed.
- When all places are filled, the Vacancies column will state ‘Standby’. Members can still book and go on a standby list, in case a booking is cancelled, or we may charter an additional boat if there is enough demand.
- The Dates column always gives the actual day of arrival to the boat, even if ‘setting sail’ is not until the following morning; typical weekend events will show dates of a Friday until a Sunday.
- Similarly, the When column states when access to the boat is possible, even when ‘setting sail’ (or even handover) will not happen until the following morning. Where known, specific times will be stated, otherwise ‘am’ refers to the morning, ‘pm’ to the afternoon and ‘eve’ to the evening.
- Event attendees must plan to arrive and leave the boat on the specified dates and times. Deviations may be possible, but only via advanced agreement with the skipper: late arrival or early departure may not be possible due to passage planning constraints.
